Trees

Trees are important to all indigenous earth centred peoples across the world and Lithuanians are no different.

The Oak tree is especially sacred and dear to Lithuanian peoples. Sacred Fire rites were often held in groves of Oak trees as well as other places of natural beauty. There's even a 1000-2000 year old Oak tree who the locals call Stelmužė and have cared for him by making struts to support his branches and used tin and wire to mend damage from lightning strikes!
The Oak Tree is not only a symbol of the strength and might of Perkūnas, the Thunder God but a symbol of the mythological World Tree that has many legends associated with it.
In Australia, the Aboriginal peoples had sacred trees and scarred trees to signify a sacred site.
I like the story of twisted Angophorra trees that have red sap oozing from various places. Aboriginal legend has it that, in the Dreamtime, these people were speared for breaking the law and were then turned into trees who would bleed sap (blood) for an eternity for their transgressions.
Above is a photo of Stelmužė in Lithuania.
